Rodjen sam u Zagrebu, 4. 7. 1967. Počeo sam se baviti tenisom 1976.g. u teniskom klubu Trešnjevka. Kao junior, sa 17 g. Osvojio sam prvo mjesto na državnom prvenstvu do 18  i do 21. godine. Nastupao sam za juniorsku reprezentaciju bivše države na brojnim natjecanjima, a kao pojedinac osvojio sam tri velika medjunarodna natjecanja, te na  sam na juniorskoj svjetskoj  rang-listi ITF, u toku 1985. g. zauzimao 7. mjesto. Nastupao sam na juniorskom Roland Garrosu, gdje sam se plasirao u osminu finala, i  na Wimbledonu.

1986 i 1987 osvojio sam seniorsko prvenstvo bivše države. Te godine osvojio sam i srebrnu medalju na Univerzijadi u Zagrebu. Bio sam u Davis cup momčadi bivše države protiv V. Britanije u Zagrebu.

1992. osvojio sam prvo Hrvatsko državno prvenstvo u tenisu, pojedinačno i u parovima, na teniskom centru Maksimir. Bio sam član Davis cup reprezentacije Hrvatske u brojnim susretima, a zabilježio sam i dvije pojedinačne pobjede, protiv Portugala i Ukrajine. Te, 1995. godine, reprezentacija je igrala u najboljoj, svjetskoj skupini Davis cupa, dijelom  zahvaljujući i  mojoj pobjedi u pet setova protiv prvog Portugalskog igrača N. Marquesa.

1995. na neslužbenom svjetskom prvenstvu osvojio sam 2. mjesto s reprezentacijom Hrvatske ( World team cup, Duesseldorf). U reprezentaciji smo bili Goran Ivanišević, Saša Hiršzon i ja.

Moja natjecateljska karijera trajala je punih 15 godina, tijekom kojih sam nastupao na brojnim pojedinačnim turnirima širom svijeta. Nastupao sam u kvalifikacijama za Roland Garros, Australian open. Osvojio sam prva mjesta na manjim turnirima u Brazilu, Egiptu, Italiji, Njemačkoj, a na challenger turniru u Jakarti igrao sam u finalu, 1994.g.

Od poznatih imena igrao sam protiv Gorana Ivaniševića, Thomasa Mustera, Carlosa Moye, Tima Henmana, Dominika Hrbatya, Ivana Ljubičića, Ive Karlovića, Željka Krajana, Jonasa Bjorkmana, Bohdana Ulichracha, Michaela Changa, Borisa Beckera, Guillerma Corie…

Najbolje plasiran na ATP ljestvici bio sam 1995. g .-  218. mjesto.

1997. diplomirao sam na Višoj trenerskoj školi na Kineziološkom fakultetu u Zagrebu sa temom Psihološka priprema tenisača.

 

2005. imenovan sam za vanjskog suradnika na Kineziološkom fakultetu u Zagrebu.

Kao trener počeo sam raditi 2000. g i to s našim igračem Željkom Krajanom. U isto vrijeme obnašao sam funkciju izbornika u Hrvatskom teniskom savezu, za juniore do 16 i 18 g. Nakon toga sam dvije godine proveo u Sydneyu, Australija, takodjer  kao trener perspektivnih juniora. U isto vrijeme suradjivao sam i sa Ivom Majoli za vrijeme njene australske turneje  (Gold Coast, Canberra, Australian open).

2002. g. vratio sam se u Zagreb i dobio posao kao trener u teniskom klubu Ponikve, gdje i danas radim. 2004.g. tenis klub Ponikve osvojio je prvo mjesto u 1. hrvatskoj ligi, seniori. U momčadi sam nastupio kao trener i igrač. 2006. i 2008. g. klub je takodjer osvojio momčadsko prvenstvo Hrvatske, 1. ligu, pod mojim vodstvom.

Od naših igrača radio sam ili surađivao sa Rokom Karanušićem, Sašom Tuksarom,Vjekoslavom Skenderovićem, Ivanom i Marijom Abramović, Ivom Majoli, Mirjanom Lučić…

Od travnja do srpnja 2009. radio sam u timu Dinare Safine, kao suradnik Željku Krajanu i kondicijski trener u vrijeme kad je bila na prvom mjestu WTA liste. Te godine osvojila je turnire u Rimu i Madridu, te je igrala finale Roland Garrosa i polufinale Wimbledona.

Od 2009.- 2010.g bio sam trener našem Davis cup reprezentativcu Antoniu Veiću.

Danas, uglavnom radim s kategorijama igrača do 16 i 18 g. u TK Ponikve, a neki postižu vrlo zapažene rezultate na domaćim i medjunarodnim natjecanjima.

Kao trener vodio sam ITF team Europe do 14 g. 2006 i 2008. na turnirima po Evropi.

Predavao sam na nekoliko trenerskih skupova sa temom „Tenis u zoni“, a sudjelovao sam na brojnim seminarima u zemlji i inozemstvu ( Louis Cayer, Frank Zlesak, Antoni Girod, Beni Linder, Kenjiro Yoshigasaki, Dan Millman…).

2010.g vodio sam 5-dnevni seminar za trenere i igrače u Tirani, Albanija.

Posjedujem A coach licencu trenera Hrvatskog teniskog saveza, Level 2 tennis coach diplomu australskog saveza, a aktivno se služim engleskim i njemačkim jezikom.

Diplomirao sam na Kineziološkom fakultetu, Diplomskom stručnom studiju, smjer tenis te stekao zvanje Stručnog trenera- specijaliste.

Od 2012.g. sudjelujem u timu Davis cup reprezentacije Hrvatske kao pomoćnik izborniku, a od 2008. sam izbornik omladinskih selekcija.

Igor Saric 

 

I was born on 4th of July, 1967 in Zagreb, Croatia. At age of nine, I started to play tennis at local tennis club. At the same time I also played many sports such as handball, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, soccer for my school team.

I finished High school for journalism and culture in Zagreb in 1986. After that I turned pro and I played many toournaments all over the world.

 

In 1987 I finished Tennis Coach Course in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

On January 17th, 1997 I graduated from the Faculty of Phisycal Culture as High Sports Tennis Coach, duration of four semesters.

In 2002 I got Certificate of Qualification and Registration from Australian Tennis Proffessional Coaching Association as a Proffessional Tennis Coach  (Level 2).

From 2006 I am cooperator at the Faculty for Kinesiology in Zagreb for subject Methodology of tennis training.

 

During my high school, I played on ITF junior circuit and I reached highest rank of No 7 on ITF world ranking, wining 3  junior tournaments: Sofia, Berlin, Ostende. At Roland Garros I played round of 16, and at European championships I made QF.

In former Yugoslavia, I won National Championships 18 and under in 1985. In 1986 and 1987 I won mens National Chanpionships, beating Goran Ivanisevic both years. Same years I was in Yugoslav Davis cup team.

 

1986 I got a wild card for Mercedes cup tournament in Stuttgart, Germany and I beat Brian Teacher in 1st round. 2nd round I lost to Jan Gunnarson.

 

1987 I made finals at World University Games in Zagreb.

 

1992 I won first ever National championship of Croatia, singles and doubles, beating Sasa Hirszon in five sets.

 

1992 I won Satellite tournament in Egypt, beating Gilbert Schaller

 

1992 played last round qualifyng at Roland Garros

 

1993 I qualified for the ATP tour in Bukarest, then I lost to Thomas Muster in three sets

 

1994 I played singles for Croatian Davis cup team against Portugal and I won against Nuno Marques in five sets. Our team won and we went to the World group.

 

1994 I went to the finals of 75 000 Challenger in Jakarta

 

1995 I was in the Croatian team when we went to the finals of World team cup in Duesseldorf, Germany. Our team was: Goran Ivanisevic, Sasa Hirszon and Igor Saric.

 

1996 I won masters of Brazilian Satellite tournament beating Martin Stringari and Francisco Costa

 

I played many profesional tournaments all over the world such as satellites, futures, challengers and ATP tour tournaments.

 

My highest ranking in singles was 218 ( 12 Jun 95) and doubles 311 ( 15 Nov 93) .  Career record in singles on ATP tour was 3-3 and in doubles 2-8.

 

In my career I played against a lot of top players: Carlos Moya, Tim Henman, Jiri Novak, Thomas Muster, Cedric Pioline, Petr Korda, Guillermo Coria, Goran Ivanisevic, Ivan Ljubicic, Ivo Karlovic, Jonas Bjorkman, Brian Teacher, Alberto Bearastegui, Alex Corretja, Jose Francisco Altur, Michael Tebutt, Aleksander Mronz, Francisco Gonzales, Dominik Hrbaty, Volkov Aleksandar, Magnus Larson, Younes El Alanoui, Steve Bryan, Jared Palmer, Skoff Horst, Bohdan Ulichrach, Jerome Golmard, Andrei Pavel, Thomas Johansson, Wayne Arthurs, Nicolas Escude, Michael Chang ( in doubles), Boris Becker (in doubles), Yevgenij Kafelnikov and Aleksandar Olkhovskiy ( in doubles), Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal ( in doubles), Javier Sanchez and Thomas Carbonell ( in doubles).

 

I beat some of them: Jonas Bjorkman, Petr Korda, Cedric Pioline, Brian Teacher, Jan Gunnarson, Goran Ivanisevic, Jose Francisco Altur, Michael Tebutt, Michael Westphal, Dominik Hrbaty, Jan Appel, Ciril Suk, Bernd Karbacher, Andrea Gaudenzi, Gianluca Pozzi, Martin Rodriguez, Adrian Voinea, Ulf Stenlund, Arnaud Di Pasquale, Christophe Rochus, German Puentes.

 

At age of 32 I quit playing, my last tournament was ATP tour in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

I started to work as a coach of Zeljko Krajan ( highest ATP rank 88) and I was a national coach for juniors 18 and under in Croatia.

After that I went to Australia and I worked in private club of former  Australian Davis cup coach  Bob Giltinan in Sydney. At the same time I was coaching Croatian player Iva Majoli when she came to play  WTA tournaments in  Australia  (Gold Coast, Canberra and Australian Open 2002).

At 2002 I came back to Croatia and started to work with young players from my country and some professional and Davis cup players such as: Roko Karanusic, Sasa Tuksar and Ivana Abramovic.

I was a National Champion with my team  TK Ponikve for 2004 and 2006!

 

In October 2008 I started to work for Croatian Tennis Federation as a National Coach for juniors under 16 and 18. At that time we had some top ITF juniors such as Mate Pavic, Mate Delic and Borna Coric. Pavic is junior Wimbledon doubles champion for 2011.

Since then I still have this position.

At 2009 I started to coach Croatian davis cup player Antonio Veic whome I was coaching for a year and a half, reaching ATP rank 150 at that time ( 2nd round Australian open).

 

In 2009 from April to July I was a assistent coach and fitness coach of Dinara Safina. In this period she reached number 1 of WTA rank, wining tournaments in Madrid and Rome, reaching finals of Roland Garros and semi- finals of Wimbledon.

 

From 2009 I am involved in coach education program in Croatia with my topic: Mental preparation in tennis, where I am introducing importance of mental preparation to young coaches. Also, I held a few seminars in Croatia and Slovenia with topic: Playing in the zone.

In 2010 I had a workshop in Tirana, Albania, where I worked 7 days with the best young players and Davis cup players from Albania.

 

At the moment, I am still National Coach for juniors 16 and 18 and under  in Croatia, working for Croatian Tennis Federation, as well as assistent coach for Croatian Davis cup team. This year 2012, we lost in QF against Argentina in Buenos Aires and I was there as a team member.

My first book „Anything is possible“ is about importance of personal development and mental toughness in professional mens tennis.

 

My other interests are martial arts, I am holding a black belt in Aikido, started practicing in 2002, jazz music ( playing a guitar for many years), reading…
